Step One: The Realization
Charlie Parker once said, “Don’t play the saxophone. Let it play you.”
Welcome to my first blog, everyone!
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are wondering if it is time to buy a new saxophone? If you have not, that is alright! That time will still come at some point in your life as a saxophonist.
I have created an eight-step guide to offer some help. This process was designed from a personal experience that I have been through when purchasing my new saxophone, and trust me when I say that this process made my life so much easier!
Let’s talk about Step One. Many people might tell you that it is time to buy a new saxophone. Many people might say to you that your saxophone is not of quality. Many people might say to you that your saxophone is holding you back from growing. This honestly might be the first time you are looking into buying a saxophone. Well, let me say that you need to stop listening to everyone around you!
Say this sentence with me three times, “I will know when it is time.” "I will know when it is time.” "I will know when it is time.”
I title this step, The Realization Step.
Let us focus on ourselves and the situation we are currently in.
Ask yourself, “why do I need or want a new saxophone?”
Is it because;
This is your first one?
Your current saxophone is broken?
Your current saxophone doesn’t have an f# key?
Have you outgrown your current saxophone?
Do you want an upgrade?
If your answer is anything from above or even different, you at least know that you have a reason as to why the time has come to purchase a new saxophone. The reason must be something that you have decided since you practice and perform on it.
